Background

The Town of Ashland started it's own Electric Department in 1917, with $50,000.00. The Department purchased a small Hydro-Electric Generating Plant plus the Poles and Wires feeding a few homes in the area. Through the years, it has grown into a reliable Distribution System serving 95% of the Town of Ashland with approximately 1100 customers.

With the mix of Residential, Commercial, and Industrial Customers, as well as efficient management with a Board of Commissioners, the Citizens of Ashland now enjoy some of the lowest Electrical Rates in the Northeast.

As we look to the future, the Electrical Commissioners, along with their Employees, see a bright picture for Ashland Electric. With favorable Power Purchases as well as some expansion, our aim is to solidify our position in the Power Distribution field, and maintain our exceptionally competitive rates.
