Background
The Ashland Fire Department is located on Main Street between Mill and Depot Streets, centrally located to serve the urban sector of the community. The site is easily accessible and highly visible. Running time to all but the most outlying rural sections of the town is within 4 minutes.
The two-story station, built in 1976, is of concrete block and brick construction and has seven bays, four on Main Street and three on the lower level entering on Mill Street. Additional rooms include an office, two large meeting rooms, kitchen, lavatories and storage rooms.
There is a Fire Chief and 30 volunteer firemen which comprise the Department. The major pieces of equipment are a ‘81 ladder truck, ‘98 rescue vehicle, ‘87 tanker and a ‘94 pumper.
The community is a member of the Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid Association with a full dispatch center located in Laconia. Ashland and 19 other member towns are served by the Center’s computer and alarm system. The Mutual Aid Association’s staff provides weekly reports of the number and types of response from each member town and a monthly statistical report which provides the number of calls responded to, with the response time to the scene of each emergency. Another aid of Ashland’s fire protection is the existing street box fire alarm system. This system is being improved and expanded by the Fire Department.
Ambulance service is contracted with Plymouth Ambulance Service.
